Winter Percussion?
Winter Percussion is a competitive activity that is seeing rapid growth across the country. A combination of music, dance and theatrics, it is best described as a “sport of the arts”. Competitions take place in high school gyms during winter months, where students are judged on both music and visual components
Each ensemble performs a series of songs (movements) focused on a central concept. Props, costumes, floor mat and music are all selected specifically for how they contribute to, and enhance, the selected theme. The elements come together to create an energetic, highly choreographed spectacle of sight and sound.
There are 3 levels of competition within the winter percussion circuit: A, Open and World Class. World Class is the highest level, with the most advanced requirements in musical skill and visual artistry. 2018 will be Leigh’s 4th year as a World Class ensemble, and we continue to make our mark as a premier ensemble in Northern California.
Do you need to be a drummer?
No you don’t, but having some musical experience is recommended. Winter Percussion is made up of a diverse group of kids with the drive to have a good time, want to participate in a rewarding team activity and like to compete in a sport that takes a lot of hard work. This is a place where you will make life long friends and have an incredibly rewarding experience and where you will learn how to become a world class drummer.
