Music, Choir, Theater Arts, and Marching Arts at Leigh High School are some of the largest programs on campus, serving more than 400 students in five music ensembles, three vocal programs, and numerous theater programs, International Thespian Society, classes and performances.
Leigh’s bands compete throughout California and travel nationally. In 2003, the Wind Ensemble participated in the New York Wind Band competition in the world-famous Carnegie Hall and earned a gold medal. In 2004, the Wind Ensemble and the Leigh Madrigals earned a command performance, the highest award possible, at the Pacific Basin Festival in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Leigh students consistently win seats in the Santa Clara County and California State Honor Bands and Choir. Both ensembles consistently receive the highest marks each year at the California Music Educators Association (CMEA) festivals.
The Leigh High School Wind Ensemble and Choir was invited and performed in the celebration of the State of Hawaii’s 50th Statehood Anniversary in 2009 in Honolulu, Hawaii. In 2011, the Leigh Wind Ensemble and Madrigals ensembles performed in the United Kingdom (Leigh was the first group from the Campbell Unified High School District to travel internationally to perform). In 2013, the group traveled to New York for its spring performance tour.
The Leigh High School Theater Arts performers continue to impress with their dramatic gifts, putting on a popular annual Haunted House and a variety of dramatic plays and musicals every year. Leigh high school Thespians have won the Northern California One Act Festival 3 times and been chosen to represent the state twice at the International Festival. Students regularly receive Superiors (highest mark) for performances, and technical designs at competition. These groups continue to foster and inspire the love of theatre with their performances and touring. Leigh Thespians wow their audiences at the district “Dramafest” festival, earning awards and Drama scholarships for Senior students.
The award-winning Leigh Longhorn Marching Band is consistently ranked as one of the best in Northern California and attracts sold-out crowds to each competition in which it participates. In 2012, the marching band traveled to San Diego for the Bridgepoint Education Holiday Bowl, where they performed at halftime with more than 12 other high school bands from across the country. Leigh was selected as the only high school band to perform also during pregame alongside the bands from UCLA and Baylor University. In the Holiday Bowl Parade, Leigh won First Place in its division, as well as Best Overall Band across all divisions.
