The following positions are ideal for parents who can’t be on campus during the day and prefer to help out from “behind a computer”.
This position is perfect for someone who loves to write and is familiar with how email and web communications work. We are looking for someone to lead our team of communications volunteers. This person will be supported by others who help with keeping the PAPA website up to date, making social media posts, maintaining the calendar, and keeping the school informed.
This position is a member of the executive team and has a vote.
Time Commitment: Attend monthly PAPA meetings; heavy amount of work at the beginning of the year updating the calendar, contact list, and sending out email communications; then tapers off to about one communication a week in the Winter and Spring quarters.
If you love social media and want to be part of the Communications team we are looking for someone to take ownership of our Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook accounts. This person will coordinate with activity leads to get event details and photographs to use for social media posts.
Time Commitment: Very low amount of time is required and can all be done in the evenings and on weekends.
This position is perfect for someone who doesn’t have a lot of time to volunteer but can attend every PAPA meeting. As the Secretary you will record the PAPA meeting minutes and document them in written form after each PAPA meeting, and ensure they are ready to be published 2 weeks before the next meeting.
This position is a member of the executive team and has a vote.
Time Commitment: Attend monthly PAPA meeting and spend 1 to 2 hours a month summarizing the minutes from the meeting. All the work can be done in the evenings and on weekends.
If you have a student in any of the sit-down bands and would enjoy helping Mr. Christiansen with the concerts this is a good position for you. For each concert and for the Blossom Hill Festival you would help to organize the parent volunteers to bring baked goods, be available at the concert to collect donations, and to assist with setup and tear down. You would also partner with the Choir Liaison for combined events.

Time Commitment: Attend monthly PAPA meeting and spend a few hours the week before and the week of the concert to organize parents.
Are you passionate about making sure we operate according to our by-laws and would prefer to get involved when there are special requests or volunteer needs? If so, then being an At Large member of PAPA is a perfect role for you. This is also an ideal opportunity for a parent of a current Freshman or Sophomore who wants to learn more about how PAPA operates.
There are between 1 and 3 At Large positions available next year and this role is a member of the dedicated team and has a vote.
Time Commitment: Attend monthly PAPA meeting and occasionally help out at events when an extra hand is needed.
If you can only spare a few hours over the entire year and are looking for something that can be done in the evenings and weekends, then this opportunity is perfect for you. The Escrip/Amazon coordinator sets up PAPA each year with Escrip and Amazon and pulls together information that can be shared through PAPA emails and social media posts. This person will also keep track of funding coming through these accounts and keep the Fundraising Lead and Treasurer up to date on progress.
Time Commitment: Very low commitment, with the heaviest amount of time happening in August and September.
This all PAPA fundraiser can mostly be coordinated behind the scenes bt does require some coordination with the PAPA Board and Mr. Christensen to get the order forms to the students and information communicated to the family. If you are good with organization and sorting this short fundraiser could be good for you.
Time Commitment: A low commitment in October to set up the event and then a heavier load in November when the candy comes in and it needs to be sorted and distributed to families. There is usually a few parents who will sign up to help sort.
The following positions are ideal for parents who would prefer to get deeply involved in a single activity for a few weeks or a couple months. These positions include getting more involved with the students and Directors and may require spending some time on campus during the day.
If you love being involved with the Marching Band and attending the football games and the competitions you may really enjoy being the coordinator. This role entails acting as a liaison between Mr. Christensen and the marching band families. You will partner with the other parent leads to set up aren’t volunteers, plan travel and coordinate logistics, uniform and food needs. This is a really fun role that immerses you with the Marching Band Community.
There is an operating manual to help anyone new to this role, plus there are still active parents who have previously been the coordinator.
Time Commitment: This role is heavy in August when the season kicks off and involves a few hours of commitment every week during the season. However, there are always a lot of volunteers willing to help so there is never a situation where everything falls on one person.
If you have an enthusiastic percussionist who you already know will be part of Winter Percussion next year and you would love to be more involved in shaping how PAPA supports the percussion ensemble, this could be a good opportunity for you. This role entails organizing registration, setting up parent volunteers, and helping to coordinate travel for the ensemble. It may also entail organizing fundraising. You will partner with uniform and operations team on logistics, props, and attire.
Time Commitment: This role is heavy in November and December when the season kicks off and then will require more time again when the ensemble travels. There are many active parents involved with percussion who willingly volunteer and help when the parent lead asks for it.
Darlene Weber is our Food Crew lead and she is looking for a parent whose student will be part of Winter Percussion next year to lead feeding the ensemble when they have 10-10 rehearsals and when they travel for competitions. If you enjoy planning meals and are a good shopper and want to be at every competition this could be a good opportunity for you. Recipes for meals and much of the food “how-to” has already been documented so anyone new can take on the role.
Time Commitment: The week before and of a competition or multi-day clinic will require a few hours of time to plan and prepare for the meal. At the competition site there is a commitment to set up, serve, and clean up the meal. There are always many volunteers willing to help with the food.
If you have a committed guard performing who you already know will be part of Winter Guard next year and you would love to be more involved in shaping how PAPA supports Guard, this could be a good opportunity for you. This role entails organizing registration, setting up parent volunteers, and helping to coordinate travel for the ensemble. It may also entail organizing the Greenery fundraiser. You will partner with uniform and operations team on logistics, props, and attire.
Time Commitment: This role is heavy in November and December when the season kicks off and then will require more time again when the ensemble travels. There is a group of new parents who willingly volunteer and help when the parent lead asks for it.
Do you love the Crab Feed? We are looking for someone to lead the planning team for next year’s event. If you are someone who is very organized and good at project planning, this is a good role for you. There is usually a good number of people on the planning team to help out the lead, and we always get plenty of parent and student volunteers. The lead is the person who directs the planning team and all the volunteers.
Time Commitment: This role kicks off in October when the planning team comes together to review and allocate the action items. There is a moderate amount of activity through December and then in January this role gets heavy with coordinating with the team, getting volunteers, organizing the food, and setting up and tearing down the event. It is possible to do this role in the evenings and weekend.
If you have been involved in auctions before, either with a non-profit or a school please consider this opportunity. This person will reach out to the local community to solicit donations for the auction and then will work with a team to organize the donations into various baskets for bidding. This person also leads the team with setting up the baskets on the day of the event. This role would have an alum still with PAPA who will be available to mentor you for this event!
Time Commitment: This role kicks off in October with preparing the letters to send to potential donors. In January the commitment gets heavier as the donations come in and baskets get created. It is possible to do this role in the evenings and weekends.
This is the easiest fundraiser to lead as it does not require much planning nor organizing many volunteers. The lead for this event works with Mr. Christensen and Custom Fundraising Solutions to rally the parents and students to get the word out to the community. There is some involvement in encouraging parents to help with advertising through social networks and by dropping off flyers, but most of the work is done by Custom Fundraising Solutions.
Time Commitment: A few hours in August and September are needed to prepare for advertising and to determine when and how to communicate to students and parents. Then on the day of the event you would need to be there most of the time to coordinate the few parent and student volunteers.
If you are interested in getting involved in leading a fundraiser, but don’t have a lot of time then this one may be perfect for you. In this role you would purchase candy, water, and sodas and organize them for sale on the day of Graduation. You would coordinate the other parent volunteers on the day of the event.
Time commitment: A few hours in May to organize and purchase the items and then most of graduation day to prep, sell, and clean up after the fundraiser.
The following positions are best suited for parents who have specific skills and would like to support the PAPA organization by applying those skills as a volunteer.
If you are good with numbers and have a Finance background we would love to have you take on this opportunity. As the treasurer you will maintain the books, set up the bank accounts, create the annual budget based on input from Board members and Team Leads and keeps track of budget on a monthly basis. It will also entail paying bills and depositing monies from donations and fundraisers as well as distributes annual donation letters. This role also pays the insurance policy. The Treasurer does NOT make purchases.
This role is a member of the executive team and has a vote.
Time Commitment: This role is a heavy time commitment much of the year, especially at the beginning of the school year and at the end of the calendar year and can sometimes be more than 5 hours in a week. Most of the work can be done in the evenings and on the weekends, but the Treasurer does need to go to the green collection box in the band room and the PO Box at the Postal Annex to pick up monies, so there may be times this person needs to go to campus in the afternoons or on practice evenings when the band room is open.
PAPA just added a second Assistant Treasurer role and we expect to fill both, meaning that the weekly tasks of deposits, checks, and letters can be distributed across three people and the time commitment for the Treasurer will be greatly reduced.
If you are good with numbers but cannot commit the 5+ hours a week as Treasurer, then this could be a good opportunity for you. In this role you will support the PAPA Treasury with budgets, payments, and deposits.

Time Commitment: With there now being two Assistant Treasurers we are expecting the time commitment is a consistent 1 or 2 hours a week throughout the year.
If you are good with numbers, are a CPA, or have done an audit we would love your help in this role. You will conduct an independent audit of PAPA’s books to ensure all payments and deposits are properly accounted for.
Time Commitment: This is a one-time heavy activity that happens at the beginning of the fiscal year (July/August).
Are you really organized? If so you would be perfect to lead the uniform team. In this role you coordinate the purchase of uniforms, t-shirts, and uniform accessories. You also ensure that uniforms are catalogued, clean, and properly stored when not in use. You may also coordinate with the Winter Percussion and Winter Guard leads on their uniform orders. You also maintain the “crash cart” for when ensembles travel and keep the uniform areas in the garage and Connex in order.
Time Commitment: This role involves a lot of time at the beginning of the marching band season, and also whenever t-shirts need to be ordered. There may also be another commitment of time to support the Winter activities. This role does involve being on campus when the students are practicing. There is a good size group of parents who are on hand to help with mending, ironing, sorting, and washing, so all the work is not done by just one person.
If you only have a few hours of time and are willing to shop for medical supplies we would love your help. This person takes inventory of all first aid kits and ensures they are replenished at the beginning of the Fall and Winter seasons, and old medications and materials are properly discarded.
Time Commitment: In August a few hours of time to review the first aid kits and purchase any items that need to be replenished. Then again in November to check on the inventory, and then again in March.
